The Pro Duel 1
by george on Apr.28, 2012, under Uncategorized
This film features some of the best swimmers in the world going head to head for cash and the glory of their respective pro teams in the first ever Pro Duel.
The Pro Duel 1 which took place back in November 2011 in Ann Arbor Michigan. This was my first competition of the 2012 Olympic season, and was an incredibly fun way to start back racing.
Back from that online hiatus

So, I am sorry about the recent lack of news. Since my last post i trained in Michigan for a month, then went to compete in Holland where I posted a 22.24. I trained in Serbia with my good friend and Olympic Silver Medalist Milorad Cavic for almost 2 weeks before competing in the Italian Open, where i mustered a 3rd place finish in a mediocre 22.40.
After a quick turnaround down in Trinidad with my family for Christmas I headed to a training camp in the Florida Keys with the guys from Michigan. I felt after this that I was finally approaching that super fitness that will be required in London next summer. I attended a meet in Tampa where I won the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back in 22.90, 50.9 and 56.6 respectively. subsequently relocated my training base to Michigan with Mike bottom and Mark Hill with the Club Wolverine Elite team and have been face down grinding hard for that shine to come this summer since.
I love the set up here, the training, the group, the coaching are all very positive influences on me and are very fun and refreshing after training so long on my own. The work has been paying off. I recently competed in the Indiana Grand Prix 2 weeks ago where I absolutely rocked it. With nothing but 4 days of rest I swam an in season career best of 49.94 in the 100m freestyle, a career best textile suit time of 21.89 in the 50 (video below) and a 55.65 lifetime best in the 100 backstroke. I can’t explain how gratifying that meet was for me. With so much frustration and disappointment in the sport, all it takes is one good day to make it all worth while. That 21.89 that I posted is up in the rare air of swimming so to speak and ranks as the 4th fastest time in the WORLD!! Unrested! #gobigorstayhome
Since this meet I have returned to my usual regiment of work.
I swim 2 sessions for a total of 4 hours on Mondays and Tuesdays, plus 2 hours of weights on each day. Wednesdays we have just one 2 hour session in the morning but this one is focused on racing races over and over again and is usually one of the hardest and most painful of the week. Thursdays are slow, long aerobic swimming to recover. Friday consists of 2 sessions of 2 hours each in the pool and and additional 2 hours in the gym.
Saturdays are like Wednesdays, the coup de grace to finish off the week!
Our group has been joined by Milorad Cavic, who will be a great asset to train with. Not just the racing gin practice aspect but also his professional and positive attitude.
Stay tuned for more posts coming up in the next few days.

I am up here in Michigan, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor under Mike Bottom, the coach who really helped me become the sprint freestyler I am today. I really enjoy and appreciate his input and feed back. Also the environment here is great. After training alone for over a year I really appreciate the camaraderie.
The is a meet here next week that I will be racing in. Check it out the meet and who is coming here.
